Windows 10 and RvS

Mike's picture

So spent some time looking to see it anyone is running RvS on Windows 10. Found one that said the Steam version is working OK. My Windows 7 desktop is wanting to update to Windows 10.

Hi Mike,

It should work, Mike, although Windows 10 doesn't really give much advantage for the average user. The fact that it pesters you about installing W10 is just a MS spam and some say has hidden costs.

If you want to remove the notification follow "option two" or "option four" in the following guide: http://malwareprotectioncenter.com/2015/06/15/get-windows-10/

Thanks Tony. I do like Win10 much better then 8.1 on my laptop. I think I will just wait another month or so before thinking about updating. This may give MS some more 'bug fixing' time:)

Oh so you have W8.1? I've got the impression that you had W7 on it. Well that's understandable, Mike, anything is better than W8. Good luck with it! Sure, give some time to MS :)

BTW I had some really tough adventures in the last couple of months, you wouldn't believe what I've been through...

I think I'd deserve some RVS in the weekend, hope I can catch you sometime. I'm going to bed now but I'll try to be online tonight around 9pm London time.

W8.1 on a HP laptop but W7 on my desktop where RvS is installed with a nice 24" monitor. Had some trouble with the Windows 10 app store but it got fixed in an update...same old windows:( That is the very reason I will take my time updating from W7 to W10 on my desktop.

I have had a crazy summer as well but for very different reasons. My youngest (28yrs old) daughter's wedding is in 4.5 weeks and my older daughter (and 3 grandkids) have been staying with us on and off while they house shop in Syracuse (1.5hr away). They did buy a house and expect to sign papers and move by September 1st...so my crazy has been busy but fun!

Well I finished installing Win10 on my desktop today. I saw a post on the steam site that said you just need to drop the ver DX8.1 dll file in your RvS system folder and it works OK. I guess it was only for the steam version. My CD version will not start. Tried many things but NO go. Maybe I will need to install the steam version...I do have a couple of steam games and an account.

Sorry to hear that Mike. I'll check out tomorrow for you (if I'm not forgetting it).

You can check mate but I think I am getting ready to move on from RvS:( Maybe Rainbow Six Siege will be better.

Siege is not a tactical game, it's Call of Duty like run-and-gun.

Did you install the NO CD CRACK? It's necessary because ravenshield uses SafeDisc copy protection and Windows 10 doesn't support it.

I look into some more info and get back to you, maybe I'll install a Windows 10 to a test PC and find out for you.

You are correct about SafeDisk not working on Win10. Looked for a NO CD crack file on a 'safe' site but did not see one. I need to look on an old HDD because I tried one once about 4-5yrs ago. It worked but online servers saw it as a hack and would not let me join and play (A Twilight program saw it if I remember).

Anyway it is getting hard to keep interested in RvS any more.....

Well the Siege Beta has been out for PC for a while. I read some reviews saying it is much more tactical then COD however it needs more stealth to be a RvS replacement. R-n-G players don't last long. One big problem is at this point there is no server list. When you say you want to join you get put on a random server that needs players to fill the 5 person team:( I think other games do this also. Also there is not a stealth way to enter a building (in the beta). You can't just slowly open a door and sneak in...you blowup the door or crash through the windows etc.. Does not look as promising as I first thought.
